Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Feasibility Studies and Services

Automated meter reading (AMR) technology has been used by utilities for many years.  Until recently, the focus on such systems has been primarily on obtaining revenue meter readings.  The trend in recent years has been to use AMR systems to provide larger volumes of information and a greater variety of different types of information.  Modern systems often provide readings on a daily or even hourly basis.  In addition, they collect a variety of information on outage status, numbers of temporary interruptions, service voltage, and other power quality information.
AMI Puzzle

Systems that can provide this larger volume and greater variety of information are becoming known as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems.  Increasingly, AMI systems are also being considered as playing a key role as a customer gateway technology in the various advanced interactive or “smart grid” efforts.  Utilities need to carefully weigh the capabilities of the traditional, “tried and true” metering technologies with the newer, but less well-proven systems when considering an AMI implementation.
Significant enhancement of the operational value of AMI is now available as a result of recent developments in the integration of AMI with other automation systems.  For example, AMI, integrated with an outage analysis, improves outage handling and reduces outage duration.   Load control, for those systems with demand charges can provide significant economic benefits.

Cornice can provide the following services in relationship to AMR and AMI systems:
